” Accidental drowning is one of the leading causes of death in young children. Swimming lessons may seem like the best way to prevent drowning. But, organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends “layers of protection,” meaning that parents must think beyond swimming skills to other ways they can promote water safety. The AAP emphasizes the importance of teaching children how to swim. There has been controversy though, as to what age lessons should start., But, new evidence has led the AAP to adopt the viewpoint that children aged 1-4 may be less likely to drown if they have taken swimming lessons. Ultimately, it is up to the parents to decide whether their young children are emotionally and physically ready to begin formal classes with a swim instructor.” Visit our website at www.babyotterswimschool.com for more information.

  1. We are installing an inground pool in the very near future. Our first decision is to go with a fiberglass pool or a gunite pool? Advice from all you pool owners would be greatly appreciated. If you have had both types, please indicate in your relpy. Thanks!

  2. We use marcite here in Florida. Don’t know enough about fiberglass to give an opinion. I do know drowning prevention so when installing any pool please be sure that all the layers of protection are in place. If you are not sure what they are please tour our website http://www.babyotterswimschool.com for the information on the safety DVD or go to http://www.tenminutesforlife.com. Also when building a pool if you have children I recommend two shallow ends and the deeper part in the middle. It makes the pool easier for kids to use. Make sure they all know how to swim. Good luck. Have a water Safe Day
